ROME, Ga. – Joy Love Boone Murray died at her home Jan. 15, 2004. She was born in Caribou, in 1925, the third child of Dr. Ralph Willard Boone and Eleanor Cleophus Jane Gaynor Boone. She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Roy and Storer; and her sisters, Betty and Dana. Joy is mourned by her family; her sons, William Hughes Murray Jr. and Roy Allan Murray; her daughters, Lynn Murray Evans and Lesly Gaynor Murray; her sister, Eleanor Boone Lupo; her grandchildren, Kathryn Evans Schneider, Owen William Evans, Ben Wood Edds, and Rachel Abigail Edds; sons-in-law, Dr. Bev Evans and Stephen C. Edds, William Hughes Murray Sr., Corey Schneider and many beloved nieces and nephews. Joy graduated from Caribou High School and was Queen of the Winter Carnival. She attended Purdue University. After raising her family, Joy enjoyed a varied career in marketing, real estate, and free-lance writing. She was the author of several cookbooks and publisher of the first Atlanta Professional Women’s Directories. She was an avid reader, poet, gourmet cook painter, and health and nutrition enthusiast. Joy loved to snow ski and hike, and stayed informed about and engaged in civic affairs. She loved public radio. She was an active member of her church, St. Peters Episcopal in Rome, Ga. Her funeral will be held 3 p.m. Saturday Jan. 24, 2004, at St. James Episcopal Church in Jackson, Miss., with visitation from 1:45-3 p.m. at the church. The family has requested that memorials be sent in her name to the UMC Children’s Hospital, 2500 North State St., Jackson, MI 39216.
