CAMDEN – Edna Rankin Libby, 78, of Camden, died unexpectedly Monday, April 2, 2007, at Penobscot Bay Medical Center. Born Oct. 12, 1928, she was the daughter of Austin and Edna (Packard) Rankin. She was a 1946 graduate of Camden High School and attended the University of Maine and Merrimac Community College, Kirkwood, Mo., where she earned an associate degree in arts and sciences. On April 19, 1947, she married her high school sweetheart, Douglas F. Libby, in Camden. Doug and Edna lived in six different states and summered in Camden, before moving back to Camden in 1984. Edna was a real estate broker and a manufacturer representative for Lion Ribbon Co. She also was a volunteer gift shop manager for Riddle Hospital, Media, Pa. After moving to Camden, she worked at Rankin’s Hardware & Building Supplies, the store her mother and father founded in 1952. Edna attended the United Christian Church, Lincolnville Center. Her hobbies included crafts, and keeping in touch with her many close friends and family. She also enjoyed her water aerobics class at the Country Inn, Rockport, and having lunch with her high school classmates. Her family said she loved life and staying in touch with her wide circle of friends and family, entertaining many at her home and the family cottage on Megunticook Lake. Always thoughtful of the needs of others, always with a ready smile and warm reception, and always ready to have fun, Edna loved and was loved by many. Surviving are her three children, Diane E. Dvorak and David E. Libby, both of Camden and Barbara A. Paulson of Germantown, Md.; four grandchildren, Kathryn A. Dvorak of Portland, Kimberly S. Dvorak of Hope, James A. Libby of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Lauren E. Libby of Camden and Russellville, Ohio; a sister, Anne Young Spirio and her husband, Angelo, of Rockport; a brother, Frank Rankin and his companion, Ruth Duff, of Camden; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Douglas F. Libby, who died Sept. 9, 2006; her daughter, Cynthia E. Frank, who died in 2000; and her brother, Austin Rankin Jr., who died in 1986. A mid-April graveside service will be announced soon. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the United Christian Church, P.O. Box 288, Lincolnville Center, ME 04850 or the Camden First Aid Association, P.O. Box 368, Camden, ME 04843. Arrangements are with Long Funeral Home, 9 Mountain St., Camden.
