A Limington man was left with serious burns after a Sunday morning propane explosion.
The man, whose identity wasn’t made public, attempted to ignite a heat source at his East Sand Pond home about 9:26 a.m. when propane from a malfunctioning line ignited, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
His son, who lives across the road, heard the explosion and rushed over to help his father to safety before using a fire extinguisher to put out the flames, Moss said Sunday afternoon.
The homeowner was left with serious burns to his face, arms and chest. He was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he was treated for injuries not considered life-threatening.
Investigators believe the explosion and fire were accidental, but the probe is ongoing.
