An Old Town man was arrested Thursday following a high-speed chase on Route 11 in Pittsfield, according to Maine State Police spokesperson Shannon Moss.
At about 8:55 p.m., a trooper in Palmyra saw a vehicle traveling toward Pittsfield, swerving into the breakdown lane and going at inconsistent speeds.
When the trooper pulled behind the vehicle to observe it, the driver sped up and passed another vehicle traveling in the same direction, according to a press release.
The trooper turned on his emergency lights and siren, but the driver kept going at a high rate of speed and at times switched the vehicle’s headlights on and off.
Shortly after the trooper lost sight of the vehicle, police found that it had crashed at the intersection of North Main Street and Madawaska Avenue in Pittsfield.
The driver had fled the scene on foot, but a Maine State Police K9 team discovered Charles Michaud, 57, of Old Town, hiding under a nearby porch.
Michaud was taken into custody and transported to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said his Maine driver’s license was revoked, and open containers of alcohol were found inside the vehicle.
The accident remains under investigation. After Michaud gets out of the hospital, Moss said he will be charged with eluding an officer, driving with a revoked license and driving to endanger.
