The Alzheimer’s Association Maine Chapter invites you to attend one of seven 2026 Walk to End Alzheimer’s® in our state this September and October.
On Walk Day, participants take part in the poignant Promise Garden ceremony – a mission-focused experience that signifies our solidarity in the fight against the disease. During the ceremony, walkers will carry pinwheel flowers of various colors, each color representing their personal connection to the disease. Those living with the disease carry the blue flower, families and caregivers carry the yellow, people who have lost loved ones have purple flowers and those who support the cause and advocate for a world without Alzheimer’s and all other forms of dementia hold the orange flower.
There are more than 29,000 thousand people in Maine living with Alzheimer’s disease, and 66,000 caregivers – many of them unpaid family members.
“The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is about hope for a future without this disease,” Howard Goodrow, executive Director of the Alzheimer’s Association’s Maine and Vermont chapters, said. “If you have a connection to this disease or if you are concerned about your own brain health, join us at one of seven Walks in Maine this fall. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s has been called the biggest support group in the world, and we want people to know that they are not alone. We are here for them, every step of the way.”
