A Standish man allegedly set two fires inside his home less than eight hours apart last month.
Timothy Nickels, 42, has been charged with arson and failure to report a fire, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
The first fire was allegedly set inside the garage attached to Nickels’ River Meadows Drive home about 9:30 p.m. on July 22, while the second was allegedly started sometime around 5 a.m. the next day.
While damage from the first fire was limited to the garage, the second extended into a portion of the home and destroyed the garage, Moss said Wednesday afternoon.
No one was injured in the blazes.
Investigators later determined both fires were set intentionally. Fire marshals met with Nickels about 11 a.m. Wednesday after he was released from a hospital, where he was undergoing evaluation, Moss said.
Nickels was arrested and taken to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland.
