A Westbrook man drowned Wednesday afternoon in Tumbledown Pond.
Bogdon Dosov, 19, went swimming in the pond about 1:30 p.m. after hiking with a group up Tumbledown Mountain, north of Weld, according to Mark Latti, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
Dosov began to struggle in the water and then slipped beneath the surface and never came back up, Latti said Wednesday night.
Witnesses swam to where Dosov went under and brought him back to shore. He was found in 12 feet of water after being submerged for three to five minutes.
Bystanders performed CPR while waiting for first responders, who continued CPR when they arrived.
Despite efforts to keep him alive, Dosov died at the scene.
His body was taken to Wiles Funeral Home in Farmington.
