Suspicious package found at Maine tax enforcers’ office

A suspicious package was found Wednesday at the Maine tax enforcers’ office in Augusta.

The package was opened about 4:56 p.m. at Maine Revenue Services on Commerce Drive, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The person who opened the package took it outside and called the police.

“Out of an abundance of caution, the building was evacuated while the package was evaluated,” Moss said.

After X-ray imaging and field testing, investigators found no explosives or biological hazards, according to Moss.

No one was injured.

The investigation is ongoing.
