A fire left more than 1,500 people without power in Lubec early Friday morning.

At least 1,528 people were without power as of 8:15 a.m., according to Versant Power, formerly Emera Maine.

The structure fire caused “significant damage” to equipment, leading to the outage around Lubec, Versant Power said Friday morning.

The fire appeared to have interrupted phone service for those within the 733 exchange. “As far as we can determine that anyone who is on the Lubec side of the fire can dial 9-1-1 and it will ring in to the Lubec Fire Department where someone is standing by to take the call,” the Washington County Regional Communications Center said in a Friday morning message.

Those to the west of the fire “may not be able to dial out at all,” according to the communications center.

Versant Power estimated that service would be restored by noon.
