Police have publicly identified a pedestrian who died Tuesday in Southwest Harbor and the man who was driving the truck that ran her over.
Charlotte Rich, 89, of Southwest Harbor, died Tuesday as she was walking through a parking area near the rear entrance of the local library, according to police. The truck that struck her was driven by Delbert Horton, 56, of Bangor, local police said Thursday.
A few minutes before 9 a.m., Rich fell as she was walking and then was struck by the tires of the truck, a 2013 Freightliner that was towing an enclosed trailer as it turned right from a parking area next to the library onto Village Green Way. Police said they were not sure why Rich fell but that the fall could have been caused by the trailer “or some other factor.”
Rich later died from her injuries at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
The incident remains under investigation, police said.
