A 55-year-old Richmond man was arrested May 8 after police say he attempted to obtain sexually explicit photos of a minor younger than 16 and then terrorized other teens who witnessed the alleged incident.

Jeffrey Tilton was arrested at Richmond High School, Richmond police Chief Scott MacMaster said.

Police learned of the alleged crimes while following up on an underage drinking party that took place in Bowdoinham following the Richmond High School prom on May 4.

Police questioned a teen who had allegedly witnessed Tilton attempt to obtain sexually explicit photos of another teen via text message, MacMaster said.

Tilton was charged with sexual exploitation of a minor under 16 years of age and terrorizing, the latter charge because he allegedly called witnesses and threatened them with bodily harm. He was released from the Richmond Police Station on $6,000 secured bail.

He is due in Sagadahoc County Superior Court on June 11.

MacMaster said the investigation continues and additional charges are likely.
