A 61-year-old Portland man was charged with murder Sunday in the death of a local woman.
The victim, who is not being identified, was discovered about 10:45 a.m. by Portland police who were called to 362 Cumberland Ave. for a well-being check, Lt. Robert Martin said late Sunday afternoon.
Gregory Vance was taken into custody at the scene and is being held without bail at the Cumberland County Jail. He is expected to make his first court appearance Monday or Tuesday.
An autopsy will be conducted by the state medical examiner’s office, Martin said.
It was the second homicide in Maine’s largest city during the weekend.
Isahak Muse, 22, of Portland was shot during an altercation at 1:45 a.m, Saturday, police said. Muse was dead at the scene when police and paramedics arrived at a home at 107 Milton St.
Police are working to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting, Martin said Saturday. No arrests have been made.
In an unrelated incident, Markus Scott, 25, was arrested and charged Saturday with reckless conduct involving a firearm in connection with a shooting in Portland, police said.
Officers were called to a disturbance on Sherman Street around 3:30 a.m. Saturday. When officers arrived at the scene, they heard multiple shots being fired.
No one was injured.
Scott was found in Lewiston about 5 p.m. and arrested, police said.
