A person died Friday afternoon in a head-on crash on Route 3 near the Belfast Curling Club, according to the Village Soup website.

The road was closed while emergency workers responded to the incident, which Belfast police Chief Mike McFadden attributed to slippery road conditions.

One vehicle fishtailed into the path of another, the Village Soup reported, and the male passenger in the westbound vehicle was killed. The drivers were taken to Waldo County General Hospital.

Police had not yet identified any of the people involved in the crash.
