CASTLETON, Vermont — Second-ranked Husson University will battle No. 3 University of Maine-Farmington in a first-round matchup of the North Atlantic Conference baseball tourney at 12:30 p.m. Friday in Castleton, Vermont, in playoff matchups announced by the conference Monday.
Tourney host Castleton University claimed the top seed and hosting rights for the tourney. The Spartans open the tourney at 9:30 a.m. Friday against fourth-ranked Thomas College of Waterville.
Castleton finished with a 21-3 NAC record while Husson and UMF both recorded 15-9 marks but Husson won based on a predetermined tie-breaking procedure. Husson won the head-to-head series between the two squads with a 3-1 record.
Thomas finished with a 13-11 league mark.
The double-elimination tourney continues Saturday with the championship round on Sunday.
Castleton’s softball team also finished first in the conference and will host that tourney beginning at 10 a.m. Friday when the Spartans (10-2) take on No. 4 Husson (7-5). No. 3 New England College (8-4) plays No. 2 Thomas (9-3) in the next game at noon with the double-elimination tourney continuing through Saturday and an if-necessary round on Sunday.
