BRUNSWICK, Maine — A Freeport man convicted twice previously for operating after his license was revoked was arrested early Friday morning after allegedly leading police on a chase down Route 1 and into the woods.
Steven Juenemann, 46, was charged with eluding an officer and operating after habitual offender revocation with two priors, both Class C felonies, Chief Deputy Brett Strout of the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.
Juenemann also was charged with misdemeanor counts of operating beyond license restriction, refusing to submit to arrest or detention and criminal speed.
Sagadahoc County deputies attempted to stop Juenemann’s silver Ford pick-up truck as he was traveling south on Route 1 in West Bath, and Juenemann stopped just over the town line into Brunswick, according to Strout.
He allegedly stepped out of the truck before getting back into the truck and speeding away. Juenemann exited Route 1, stopped on the Cooks Corner offramp and ran into the woods.
Brunswick and Freeport police, along with a Freeport police dog, tracked Juenemann through the woods and located him about 25 feet up a tree, Strout said.
He was taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset and released Friday on $2,500. Juenemann is scheduled to appear in West Bath District Court on April 19.
