BANGOR, Maine — Martin’s Point Health Care on Thursday confirmed reports that its Bangor Health Care Center will be closing after serving the community for more than 20 years.
“We have made the difficult decision to transition our primary care services out of the Bangor area, although the details of that transition are still being finalized,” Steve Amendo, Martin’s Point’s director of marketing and communications, said Thursday in an email.
“Our providers are committed to continuing to care for their patients in the Bangor area, even after the transition, and we are working with them to solidify those plans,” he said.
“Our goal is to ensure that there is little impact to the care for those patients. We will continue to offer coverage through our Generations Advantage and US Family Health plans in Bangor and throughout the state,” Amendo said, adding that further information will be made available once the details are finalized.
Amendo did not indicate when the practice located in Suite 650 at 700 Mount Hope Ave. will close or how many employees and patients will be affected.
The main health care providers at the Bangor Health Care Center are Dr. Charles Burger, Dr. David Hallbert and Nurse Practitioner Elizabeth Frederick, according to the nonprofit’s website.
The nonprofit’s Biddeford, Brunswick Bowdoin, Brunswick Cook’s Corner, Gorham, Portland, South Portland, West Falmouth and Portsmouth, New Hampshire, locations are not affected by the closure of the Bangor site.
Headquartered in Portland, Martin’s Point is a health care organization that aims to provide better care at lower costs in the communities it serves, the nonprofit said on its website.
Martin’s Point offers Medicare Advantage and TRICARE health plans – Generations Advantage serving Medicare beneficiaries in Maine and two counties in New Hampshire and the US Family Health Plan serving military retirees and the families of active duty military in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, upstate New York and certain counties in Pennsylvania.
In addition, Martin’s Point provides primary care services through nine health care centers from Brunswick, Maine, to Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and employs nearly 800 people.
