Rockport man taken to hospital after crash in Rockland

A pickup truck struck a guardrail on Monday in Rockland.

ROCKLAND, Maine — A Rockport man driving a pickup truck had a medical issue before his vehicle struck a guardrail Monday afternoon in Rockland, according to police.

The crash occurred shortly after noon on Old County Road near the Rockland Golf Course clubhouse. Rockland police Sgt. Ken Smith said Ralph Rackliff, 75, is believed to have had a medical issue before his 2006 Chevy pickup truck struck a guardrail head-on, causing significant damage to the vehicle.

Rackliff was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport. His condition was not immediately available.

Smith said it was not known whether Rackliff was wearing his seatbelt.

Officer Joel Neal investigated the crash.
