KITTERY, Maine — A woman is dead after her SUV was struck head-on by a tractor-trailer on the Maine Turnpike Thursday afternoon.

State police spokesman Stephen McCausland said the tractor-trailer crashed through guardrails, crossed the median and struck the woman’s northbound vehicle head-on about 12:30 p.m.

The name of the woman, who was from out of state, was not disclosed. The accident happened at Mile 2, McCausland said.

The truck driver, Daniel Dunlea, 58, of Londonderry, New Hampshire, was hauling a load of paper products for Reas Trucking, McCausland said.

A team of troopers from the state police’s commercial vehicle enforcement unit joined the investigation and will examine the truck and interview the driver.
