PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Local firefighters made short work Wednesday of extinguishing a controlled burn that briefly grew out of control.
Deputy Chief Adam Rider of the Presque Isle Fire Department said firefighters were called to 215 Conant Road about 5:25 p.m.
Rider said that the property owner, whose name was not immediately available, had obtained the permit needed to burn debris from a wooden shed he had demolished earlier. The fire, however, got away from him and ignited a nearby vacant mobile home that he also was in the process of removing, Rider said.
The property owner called the Fire Department, which extinguished the mobile home fire before major damage occurred, Rider said. He said the fire department was at the scene for about half an hour.
