BANGOR, Maine — A local woman was arrested Wednesday after her involvement in a hit-and-run accident at a busy intersection, police said.

The accident occurred at the intersection of State Street and Broadway at 9:15 Wednesday morning, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said, and when Officer Myron Warner and other officers arrived, they learned a woman operating one of the cars had fled on foot.

Witnesses pointed Officer Jason Linkletter in the direction in which the woman had fled, and that led him to Tamara Strout, 43, of Bangor, who was standing in a Somerset Street driveway, Edwards said.

Strout was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, operating after suspension, and possession of a Schedule Z drug. She allegedly had two Clonazepam pills in her possession.

Strout is being held at Penobscot County Jail. No injuries were reported in the crash.
