BREWER, Maine — Local police are investigating the death of a 55-year-old man who was staying with family at 446 North Main St., according to Brewer Police Chief Perry Antone.

Police were called to the scene at 6:11 a.m. Sunday after receiving a report that the man was unresponsive and wasn’t breathing.

A state medical examiner and detectives with the Maine State Police were at scene late Sunday morning. The man’s body was removed shortly before noon and will be taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Augusta, where an autopsy will be performed.

Police had left the scene by 3 p.m. but still had not said whether they considered the man’s death to be suspicious. If it were, detectives with the Maine State Police would take over the investigation, Antone said Sunday morning.

Calls requesting information mid-afternoon Sunday were referred to Brewer police by the state police barracks in Orono.

The man’s name is not being released pending notification of other family members, Antone said.

    1. Did you ever think about the fact that the BDN may not be releasing a name, because THEY don’t have one? Maybe the police haven’t released it to them.

      1.  Exactly.  And when they don’t print anything, people whine because they missed story all together.

        1. That’s what I hate about these “comments”. No matter what the article is about some people do nothing but complain about the paper. If the story was about one of their relatives & BDN released the name of the person the article is about, they would be suing the paper for releasing the information. If you can’t read an article without getting on here complaining about it, just put the paper down & stop reading!! You do have that choice, you know. If you hate BDN news so much, why do you bother to get the paper in the first place?

          1. “Police had left the scene by 3 p.m. but still had not said whether they considered the man’s death to be suspicious.”

This person could have died by natural causes.  Why bother to report it until they are sure?

          2. Because it’s suspicious at this point and someone will talk about it and wonder why it wasn’t made public.

    2. it’s called common courtesy. Would you like to read about the death of a family member in the paper, or would you rather be informed in person?

      1. That is exactly how I found out about the death of my Cousin. It was courtsey of BDN. She died at the hands of James Hicks.

  1. 446 North Main St. Brewer is apparently a multi-unit apartment house. A quick internet search would have shown this, along with a possible match. I believe his initials MIGHT be J.K.

    1. Yes, because the newspaper can definitely get away with reporting individuals’ initials and using phrases like “might be” “could be” and “I think”. PLEASE

  2. They are NOT J.K.  I know the children of this man and he was not a permanent resident at that address.  He was staying with his son.
