EAST MILLINOCKET, Maine — The hit erotic series “Fifty Shades of Grey” is more like 50 shades of green in a town in Maine.
Nearly 3,000 tons of paper for E.L. James’ books has been produced at Great Northern Paper LLC in East Millinocket.
President and CEO Richard M. Cyr says demand for the best-selling trilogy has been so great that Random House book publisher and its paper merchant had to seek out many paper manufacturers, including Great Northern. He says the company is supplying its “Baxter Brite” paper for the books.
The three novels have dominated The New York Times’ bestseller list. Since April, one out of every five adult print novels sold in the U.S. has been a “Fifty Shades” title.

Laters, baby.
A woman came up to me at a party and told me “You have to read these books!!!”. So I downloaded the first one on my Kindle. It’s nothing more than a really poorly written romance novel with better sex. But hey, if women want their soft porn wrapped up in bad prose, we’ll take their money any day.
You got that right. sick books, mediocre writing. Says a lot about where our society is now.
Rhianna has more #1 hits than the Beatles….
I agree the writing was poor, but sick? No sicker than what you watch to play whack-a-mole every night.
Your just jealous she makes more money than you…lol
Horrible books ….they call it BDM to much vanilla ,maybe the first book was BDM …no guy would want to read this unless in prison… but I can think of some Anne Rice books erotica , BDM that would blow 50shades in handcuffs away …just to name one book or series would be …Sleeping beauty by ANNE RICE….its a free pdf ….i found it on line for my wife she just got done reading 50 shades trilogy and I recommended sleeping beauty by Anne Rice .. …she said now that was crazy …and I have been reading the only true vampire series by Anne Rice ….nothing else holds a candle to them ..50 shades a perverted kid could write ..and the Twilight series is horrible unless your 16 or want to be 16 again ..bottom line at least us guys now know what women secretly like to do or fantisize about ..time for handcuffs, pony play, dity daves…
I’ve read all three books of AR’s Beauty Trillogy…if your wife thinks the first one is a bit crazy…the other two are more so. 50 Shades was poorly written. The writing was like a group of teenage girls threw it together during a sleepover. At least AR knows how to write
Totally agree on the poorly written part of your comment. The grammar is awful and if I wanted to read “……” every other page, I would just read Facebook. I’m kind of on the fence about it so far. I’m about 1/2 way through the first one.
I have almost finished them and basically keep thumbing through the “enough already” sex scenes to find a story in there….still looking
My second uncle’s, neighbor’s, best friend’s, garbage man’s, father’s once knew a guy who met Harrison Ford.
*snickering*
3,000 TONS??? All the while my bank and my credit card companies are pleading with me to go to ‘Paperless Billing’ to save trees.
BTW:
No electrons were harmed in the sending of this post.
Oh, they make paper up there!
How are we to get our beloved National park if this keeps happening? This is an outrage!
the trees will make more money if they’re chopped down and sold.. unfortunately…
You know where you can stick your ” Beloved National park ” …………
it was sarcasm
Whats that, about a hundred trees??
A lot more than that
It’s ok 1964yawdem, the way they cut trees nowadays its over quick for them and I am sure the trees don’t feel a thing. Sleep well!!
Take it easy, the paper company has probably used the same lot of trees 3 or 4 times. Trees grow back!
Using the most conservative numbers from the source below, about 72,000 trees, or 150 well stocked acres at 8″ average diameter. Since we’re strip cutting instead of clearcutting (see any aerial photo of the north woods), and the fact that stocking isn’t perfect, there were probably 300 or more acres affected. Still just a drop in the bucket, I doubt any plans were changed in the woods, but it is neat that even our softwood is doing so much for these women.

Grey….ohhhhh, I’ve been reading 50 Shades of Gravy….its very saucy!
I did cave and order the trilogy because so many people are raving about these books… that said, I am pretty sure that nothing in them is going to be something that I have not already done… lol… my life is best summed up by the Kid Rock and Uncle Kracker song, “Damn, it feels good to be me.” Yeah, that might be TMI … I should have written a book :)
3000 tons?! For that badly written, fan-fiction crap?
*shakes head*
I LOVE this trilogy and am so glad that Maine has a hand in production. Quit the sarcasm people, these are JOBS you are making fun of
I am proud that Maine wood has satisfied so many women.
LOL
Bow chica-bow ow…. Have to say, with all of the hype about how naughty these were, they weren’t that naughty.
Hey! wake up gang. Re-read the article. Who cares if the book is good or bad. Or if trees had to be cut. The paper company had an order to produce 3000 tons of paper. That will keep the mill going, will put food on the tables, will even have someone able to put a down payment on a new logging truck. Life goes on.
What a waste of paper……
Good for Maine for getting a piece of the action, so to speak, LOL. I haven’t read the books, but I am all for keeping jobs in our paper mills.
Fifty shades of who gives a crap.
