FAIRFIELD, Maine — A Benton man is behind bars Friday after police tracked him for more than two hours late Thursday morning.

Zeke Ames, 22, had “several warrants out for his arrest” for failing to report for a sentencing on a previous charge, Fairfield Police Chief Joe Emery told the Bangor Daily News.

“We had information that he was going to be in a certain area of town,” Emery said. Police were alerted he was on the loose when an anonymous caller notified authorities just after 10:30 a.m.

“He was trying to elude us behind several homes,” said Emery.

Ames entered a house but ended up fleeing after the owner returned home, according to Emery.

A state police K-9 unit and Waterville police were called in to assist Fairfield officers, Emery said. A state police trooper was chasing Ames down a street when Fairfield police Officer Spencer Grinnell pulled his cruiser ahead of the suspect and told him to stop at gunpoint.

Ames was not armed but was considered dangerous, Emery said.

“He was supposed to report to jail and didn’t so he was kind of considered an escapee,” he said.

Additional charges are likely against Ames, who remained in jail Friday. His record includes a 2010 conviction of operating after his license was revoked and failure to stop for an officer.

  1. Is it me or do some law enforcement officials pick bigger than needed words when speaking to the press? ” “He was trying to elude us.” In plain English he was trying to ESCAPE-they even said that he was “kind of an escapee.” On second thought, perhaps he was kind of elusive.

    1.  You are clearly a product of Maine’s underfunded educational system if you think “elude” is a big word. Yikes.

      1. Well Sabrina…..My attempt at humor did not play well with you…for that I’m most sorry.

          1. You were being taken at your word and then claimed you were being humorous so, yes, I campare you to Rush in as much as he has done the same thing many times:  make a statement then say he was only joking.  Btw, this is not to say that your politics are the same  :)

          2. I’d agree with your point if I had made a comment on a serious topic. I tried to make a funny-it wasn’t-let’s leave it there. By the way only Glenn Beck irritates me more than Rush.

          3. no kidding.
