COLBY KRONHOLM MONSON – Colby Kronholm, 90, died July 10, 2007, at the C. A. Dean Hospital, Green-ville. Colby has been reunited with the love of his life of 70 years, Barbara Nesbit Kronholm, who passed away Feb. 6, 2007. Colby was born May 18, 1917, in Monson, to Amy (Lindie) and Edward Kronholm. He loved hunting and fishing with his brothers, Edgar, Aubrey, Wilbur and Ellery and tormenting his sister, Lila. Colby enjoyed his memories of Horseshoe Pond and Monson Pond and the last years of his life he and Barbara spent their happiest days in their “18” Pond Road camp located in Monson. Colby was a veteran of World War II and was stationed in India and Ceylon for three and one half years. He began his years of service in the infantry, but after developing jaundice, was reassigned as a driver for Gen. Earle Wheeler. He later was in charge of driving for Maj. Gen. Claire Lee Chennault and Gen. Joseph Stilwell. Colby had fond memories of these officers and got great pleasure of sharing stories with his family. After returning from the war, he worked in several jobs, including Moosehead Manufacturing Co., Monson; Farrin Brothers and Smith, as a mechanic; and plowing snow in the winter. He and Barbara operated a sporting camp in Rockwood and in later years worked for Lloyd Kelley of Monson and the slate quarries. He was a great storyteller and was at his happiest surrounded by family and friends. Colby is survived by his son, Ronald Kronholm of Norridgewock; a daughter, Estella “Tootie” and her husband, Wayne Bennett, of Guilford; grandsons and spouses, Boyd and Alicia Kronholm of Greenville, Wade Kronholm of Florida, Aaron and Velvet Bennett of Guilford, and Adam and Becky Bennett of Corinna; great-grandchildren, Colby, Annie, Aubrey, Lila, Cole, Connor, Chloe, Elaina, Owen, Lloyd, Eric, and Molly. The family thanks Charlene Casey of Greenville who has been a special friend to both Barbara and Colby these past few years. Also thank you to their many friends and neighbors. A memorial graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, July 13, at Lake Road Cemetery, Monson with Pastor Kevin Stevens officiating.
