STATEWIDE, Maine — Maine elementary and middle school students ages 8-14 participated in the American Mathematics Competitions in November.
Maine ranked eighth nationwide. The highest scoring students from Maine were Gregory Pershing and Stuart Wickard, both of Cumberland, while the highest scoring student from Aroostook County was Alexander Nissenbaum of Fort Kent.
The challenge has been given to high school students. On Feb. 5 and 20, the AMC competition will be offered nationwide. Maine high school students may participate in their high school, if the school is registered; otherwise, students may participate at USM Portland, Colby College, Bowdoin College, Husson University or the University of Maine Presque Isle.
