Main Stage

The epicenter for Downtown Countdown to 2013 is West Market Square. The main stage will feature music performances and other offerings throughout the evening including events from The Mr. & Mrs. Paul Bunyon Competition.

Mr. & Mrs. Paul Bunyan Contest

Downtown Countdown is proud to announce the 1st Annual Mr. & Mrs. Paul Bunyan Competition. Local adults will have the chance this year to compete for a title in an entertaining, spirited pageant style competition. The event, taking place in Downtown Bangor on Monday, December 31, 2012, will pit 5 males and 5 females against each other from 4 pm to 9:30 pm for a chance to win a $100 prize and more!

Hopefuls will submit applicationsstarting December 2nd, 2012. Eligible contestants will be narrowed down to a pool of 10 females and 10 males on December 16th. The public will vote via the Downtown Countdown website until December 22nd. Contest rules, regulations and details may be found below.

On New Year’s Eve, Final Contestants will participate in select events that include a flannel fashion show, talent show, and question and answer portion among other entertaining and “Paul Bunyan” events. The events will be held at various downtown venues with introductions and crowning held at the Main Stage in West Market Square.

 

Epic 5K

The Epic 5K Finale Road Race starts at 10am in West Market Square.

Race Day Registration begins at 9am at Epic Sports. Walkers begin at 9:30! Download a Registration Form.

The course runs throughout downtown Bangor and the Bangor Waterfront. Prizes are awarded to the overall male and female winners as well as each age group.

Stop by the Museum to make a crown or tiara to wear during the Downtown Bangor’s New Year’s Eve festivities. All of the sparkling supplies will be provided for FREE! Also, take this opportunity to view the fall exhibitions before they close on January 5th.

Concert at St. John’s

**This event is FREE and open to the public to attend

8:00pm – 9: 00pm

Organists Robert and Nancy Ludwig will be joined by Greig Shearer, Principal Flautist with the Hartford Symphony. The concert will include music by Bach, selections from “Four Hands and Four Feet” and the Radetzky March by Strauss.

9:00pm – 10:00pm

The concert is followed by a festive reception in the Undercroft.
