The Knights of Columbus and the Grand Auditorium are hosting an event to help keep people warm. “To Warm a Winter’s Night “is an evening of music ranging from Celtic and blues to rock. It will benefit the Washington Hancock Community Agency’s THAW Fund which helps people with emergency fuel assistance. Hospice Volunteers of Hancock County, The Grand Auditorium’s Historic Preservation Fund and the Knights of Columbus will also get a portion of the proceeds. This is the second year for the fundraiser which features live music from four local bands including MacLir Ceilidh Band, Bobbi Lane, The Crown Vics and the Trisha Mason Band. Special guest Evensong will also perform.

Last year the THAW Fund assisted 694 households with more than $220,000 in emergency assistance. This winter the need is even greater. The number of households being helped is already running ahead of last year’s figures. The recent cold temperatures have driven up the need, especially among the elderly who live on fixed incomes. The THAW fund relies entirely on the donations .It has run out of funds several times since the heating season began. Last year the Knights of Columbus raised more than $13,000 dollars for THAW. They hope to exceed that figure this year.

The “To Warm a Winter’s Night “musical event will be held on February 16th at 7:30pm at the Grand Auditorium in Ellsworth. Finn’s Irish Pub will offer a beer and wine cash bar. Tickets are $15.00 and can be purchased at the Grand, by phone at 667-9500 or online at ( Businesses or individuals who would like to help sponsor this event by advertising in the program or by making a donation can contact Chris Whalley at or calling 667-8288.
