Two men died and four others were hurt in a fire on Pleasant Cove Road in Boothbay on Sunday morning, according to state officials.
The state fire marshal’s office said the fire started in a first floor living room but they are still trying to pinpoint the cause. Officials said the home had been rented for the weekend by a group of people who were celebrating a birthday.
Two men were trapped inside on the second floor and died trying to escape, officials said. They were identified as 50-year-old Baldomero Zamora and 23-year-old Lucas Farias. Officials said Julie Gilbert, who suffered burns in the fire, is Zamora’s girlfriend and Farias’ mother. Three other people from Winslow were treated for injuries.
Police said a woman and her two children sleeping on the first floor escaped with minor injuries, while another woman on the second floor escaped by jumping from a window.
