A dashboard camera video of a Lewiston police officer trying to help a stuck skunk — without getting sprayed, at least initially — was posted on Facebook Thursday afternoon by our media partners at WGME CBS 13 (link above) and in less than two hours was viewed more than 8,500 times.
According to the television station, the video depicts the heroic, and risky, efforts of Sgt. Wayne Clifford during the pre-dawn hours Thursday. Using the spotlight from the cruiser, Clifford is able to ultimately lure the creature, whose head is stuck in a glass container, into a humane trap.
The Lewiston Police Department coyly explains how the rest of the adventure played out in its own Facebook post:
“We are happy to report that the skunk was freed and uninjured. Sgt. Clifford, however, had to explain to the arriving day watch officers at shift change why the station stinks. Sgt. Clifford is now home soundly sleeping in his garage.”
