Perrone, author set for book signings
BREWER — Former John Bapst of Bangor and Brewer High School football-baseball coach Ken Perrone and author Sean Stellato will be on hand at the Witches’ Friday night game against Cony High at Doyle Field to sign Stellato’s book “No Backing Down” which chronicled Perrone’s remarkable 1994 season at Salem (Mass.) High School.
Perrone led Salem to the 3A Super Bowl after defying a cease and desist order issued by Salem Superintendent of Schools Ken Curtin.
There was an 11-day teachers strike and Curtin told Perrone if he continued to coach the team, he would be fired. Perrone, who was in his 22nd year at the school, decided to stay on to coach and was fired at the end of the season.
A deal is in the works for a screenwriter to develop a movie script based on the book.
Perrone is a member of eight Halls of Fame.
Friday’s game begins at 7 p.m. and a second book signing will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Brewer High gym.
