SHAPLEIGH, Maine — The body of a Manchester, New Hampshire, man was found in Square Pond in York County on Tuesday, according to officials.
The body of Richard Fraser, 65, was recovered from the bottom of the pond near Treasure Island around 10 a.m., according to York County Sheriff William King.
According to preliminary reports, Fraser either rented or owned a cottage on the island and had disappeared Monday night. King said family members were unable to locate him despite searching for him.
The man’s body was discovered 90 feet from shore in nine feet of water, the sheriff said. The Maine Warden Service and Acton Fire-Rescue assisted.
Fraser’s body was taken to the medical examiner’s office in Augusta.
