PITTSFIELD, Maine — A home on Madawaska Avenue was destroyed by a fire early Tuesday morning, according to officials.
Firefighters were called to the single-story residence shortly before 5 a.m., Pittsfield Fire Chief Bernard Williams said.
Crews arrived to find fire spewing out of the front of the residence and the roof, according to Williams.
The house had a barn attached to it but the barn was not affected by the fire, Williams said.
The vacant house was owned by a New Hampshire couple, the chief said. The residence is being considered a total loss.
A cause has not been determined and the blaze is under investigation by the state fire marshal’s office. Firefighters from Detroit and Hartland assisted and Newport was on standby.
