ROCKLAND, Maine — A Rockland woman who agreed to a plea agreement two months ago for a felony theft at Wal-Mart is back behind bars after police said she returned to the store and stole $25 worth of beverages.

Judge Evert Fowle ordered Brittany M. Taylor held without bail during a Monday hearing in Knox County Unified Court. Taylor, 33, was arrested Saturday and charged with felony theft, criminal trespass and violating a condition of release.

Taylor had pleaded guilty on May 1 in the same courthouse to a felony theft at Wal-Mart. The charge was elevated to felony level because she had two prior theft convictions. In that case, the district attorney’s office agreed to a deferred disposition in which Taylor would serve 60 days in jail if she refrained from criminal conduct for 10 months. The agreement also barred her from returning to any Wal-Mart store.

According to a police affidavit filed Monday, Taylor returned to Wal-Mart on Saturday. Taylor went through the self checkout line and scanned some items but did not scan several others, including energy drinks and sodas with a total value of $25.

She was stopped by a Wal-Mart security officer who recognized her from the previous encounter at the store. She initially gave him a false name but she ultimately admitted who she was, according to the affidavit.

Fowle ordered Taylor held without bail until her next court appearance on Aug. 21.

The felony theft carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
