LINCOLN, Maine — A 24-year-old woman was arrested Thursday after allegedly attacking her boyfriend several times, including once in front of police on West Broadway.
Christian Gibbs of Lincoln was charged with domestic violence assault on Thursday afternoon. She made bail at Penobscot County Jail, said Detective Mark Fucile, Lincoln Police Department spokesman.
Police were called about 3:20 p.m. Thursday to the parking lot at Wal-Mart on West Broadway for a reported fight between a man and woman. When police arrived, the couple’s vehicle had left the scene and Officer Brandi Alton pulled it over on West Broadway in front of McDonald’s, Fucile said.
Alton and Fucile had separated the two and were interviewing them when the woman allegedly went back into the car and began attacking the man. Penobscot County Sheriff’s Deputy Peter Stone and Lincoln Public Safety Director Dan Summers also were there and helped calm the situation, Fucile said.
Witnesses reported that the man grabbed the woman by the shoulders and pushed her away, Fucile said. However, the man was not charged because the witnesses and the man said he was defending himself and trying to stop her attack, Fucile said.
The man, whom Fucile declined to identify, suffered a cut across his neck.
Traffic in front of McDonald’s and at Hannaford Supermarket was slowed but not stopped by the incident, Fucile said.
Gibbs is due in Lincoln District Court on April 7. The conditions of her release bar her from having any contact with the man, from doing illegal drugs or alcohol, and allow police to search her without probable cause, Fucile said.
