WATERVILLE, Maine —- Brooke Chandor finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds and MaryKate Caverly hit clutch free throws in the final minute to help the Colby College women’s basketball team to a 56-45 win over University of New England on Thursday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

The Mules moved to 12-4 with its biggest non-conference victory of the season as the Nor’easters fell to 12-3 overall. UNE was the second team receiving votes in the latest D3hoops.com national poll and had earned wins this year against Bowdoin and University of Southern Maine.

The Mules shot just 27.8 percent (15-for-54) from the field, but still won by 11 points. The Nor’easters shot 30.9 percent (17-for-55). Both teams had 40 rebounds.

The difference for the Mules was a 17-for-18 effort from the foul line, while UNE was 9-for-15. Colby also hit nine 3-point shots in 35 attempts and the Nor’easters were 2-for-12.

Carylanne Wolfington had 10 points, eight rebounds, and three steals for the Mules. Caverly was 8-for-8 from the free-throw line on the way to 10 points and added a game-high six assists. Caitlyn Nolan finished with nine points and four assists, and Mia Diplock had seven points and five boards.

Alanna Vose and Kelly Coleman were scoring a combined 28.2 points coming into the contest, but the Mules held the duo to just 13 points and 3-for-20 shooting from the field. Meghan Gribbin led the Nor’easters with nine points, six rebounds, and three assists. Coleman added nine points and nine rebounds, and Vose had nine defensive rebounds.

Colby took a 23-20 lead into halftime, but started the second half slowly and UNE went up 31-25 with 13:06 to go. The Mules turned the momentum with back-to-back 3-pointers from Diplock and Chandor to tie the game at 31-31 with 12:32 to go.

UNE’s last lead was at 34-33 with 10:50 to play. Caitlyn Nolan scored on a layup to put Colby up for good and then the Mules caught a break on a UNE foul and then a technical foul on the bench.

Fisher 86, UMM 54

At Machias, Fisher rolled to a 19-point first-half lead to take the win over the UMaine-Machias Clippers.

Murphy Carroll paced Fisher with 23 points and Shakieya Roland-Drak contributed 17 points and seven rebounds.

Ami Carver sparked the Clippers with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Brooklynne Lewis chipped in with 11 points and Rory Morgan added 8.

UMPI 45, EMCC 39

At Presque Isle, Rebecca Campbell recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds to power the UMaine-Presque Isle Owls by the Eastern Maine Community College Golden Eagles.

Sydney Churchill and Darby Toth each added 8 points for the Owls. Toth also had 8 steals and 3 assists.

Bobbie-Lynne Chambers paced EMCC of Bangor with 14 points and Jordan Maxwell added 10. Morgan Card grabbed 12 rebounds.
