GRAND LAKE STREAM, Maine — The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating recent burglaries of four camps in a remote area north of Grand Lake Stream.
The burglaries occurred over the weekend at camps located off Amazon Road in the vicinity of Lower Oxbrook Lake, Lt. Travis Willey said Wednesday.
The four camps are located in the same area, all within a few hundred yards of the lake, he said.
The burglaries took place at night over the weekend, according to Willey, and the same person — or persons — is believed to be responsible.
Property with a combined value of about $4,000 was stolen, Willey estimated. The items included an all-terrain vehicle, guns, compound bows and other hunting and fishing equipment, chain saws and other tools.
All the camps were locked, and access was gained by forced entry, according to Willey.
The sheriff’s office has leads in the burglaries and is investigating, he said.
Anyone with information about the burglaries may reach Willey at the sheriff’s office at 255-4422, ext. 34.
