PORTLAND, Maine — City police are investigating a pair of armed robberies that occurred within minutes of each other on Cumberland Avenue on Thursday night.

Portland police Lt. James Sweatt said it’s likely the robberies are connected.

The robberies were reported at 9:50 p.m. and 10 p.m., according to Sweatt.

In both cases, two men approached a victim and brandished a handgun while demanding the victim’s wallet.

The first victim, a 43-year-old man, ran from the suspects while the second victims, two women, turned over items to the suspects, who subsequently fled on foot. No victims were injured.

One suspect is a white male in his late teens or early 20s standing 5 feet, 7 inches tall with a slim build and clean-shaven face. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with the hood up and a scarf partially covering his face.

The second robber is a male of an unknown race in his 20s, standing 5 feet, 9 inches tall with a slightly larger build than his accomplice. Sweatt said he was wearing a dark colored sweatshirt with the hood up and a dark colored scarf covering his face.
