Commercial lobsterboat burns in Freeport

FREEPORT, Maine — A commercial lobsterboat stored in an outbuilding off Flying Point Road burned early Monday morning, drawing firefighters from three towns to the scene.

Firefighters from Brunswick, Freeport and Topsham responded to the blaze on Johns Road just after 1 a.m.

Freeport Deputy Fire Chief Eric Sylvain estimated the total damage at $20,000.

Sylvain said he’s unsure of the fire’s cause, given that the outbuilding has no heat or power.

He said the owner, John Coffin, had been working on the boat this winter.

The fire did not extend to a nearby house, which is about 75 feet from the building. No injuries were reported.
