PROSPECT, Maine — The body of a woman was found in the Penobscot River in the area of the Penobscot Narrows Bridge at around 7:15 a.m. Sunday, according to Lt. Brian McDonough of the Maine State Police.

Police had responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle on the bridge just before 4 a.m.

McDonough said police are treating the death as a suicide, though it will ultimately be up to a medical examiner to determine the cause of death.
