PORTLAND, Maine — A Maine State Police trooper suffered minor injuries after her cruiser was struck Friday morning by another vehicle while parked along the southbound lane of Interstate 295 near Tukey Bridge.

Tukey Bridge carries I-295 over the entrance to Back Cove.

Trooper Jessica Shorey was sitting in her cruiser near the site where two other vehicles had slid off the roadway when another vehicle lost control and struck the cruiser from behind, according to a release from Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Shorey was treated and released from Maine Medical Center in Portland after experiencing neck and back pain, McCausland said.

A light layer of snow and black ice in the area of the crash made travel treacherous at the time of the incident. Southbound traffic was limited to one lane, causing congestion that backed up to Falmouth, McCausland said.
