WALDOBORO, Maine — A prominent local lawyer accused of domestic violence assault was arrested Friday night.

Philip Cohen, 44, of Waldoboro was arrested at about 11 p.m., at his residence, according to Waldoboro Police Chief Bill Labombarde.

No one required medical care as a result of the incident, the police said. Labombarde said he could not provide additional details since the case remains under investigation.

Cohen was taken to the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset and released on $1,000 unsecured bail, according to a jail official.

Cohen has represented several high-profile suspects in criminal cases over the past few years. He currently represents 34-year-old John E. Thibeault, who is charged with manslaughter, and Todd Gilday, 44, of Belfast, who is charged with murder.
