SANFORD, Maine — Police have released the identity of a man killed in a collision in Sanford on Tuesday evening.

Sanford Deputy Chief Tim Strout said the deceased man is James Desaulniers, 53, of Lebanon.

Desaulniers was headed westbound on Lebanon Street when his Chevy Silverado crossed the center line and struck a Jeep Comanche head-on, Strout said.

The Jeep was heading east and Desaulniers had performed an improper pass, according to Strout.

Desaulniers was pronounced dead at the scene, Strout said. The driver and passenger of the Jeep suffered serious injuries and were taken by LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center in Portland. Their names were not released.

The crash remains under investigation.
