Fire at vacant Old Town house under investigation

OLD TOWN, Maine — Old Town firefighters and police officers are investigating a blaze that broke out at a vacant house on Veazie Street Tuesday morning.

The fire sent Old Town, Orono, Bangor and Milford firefighters to 188 Veazie St. shortly after 7:30 a.m., Old Town Fire Chief Steve O’Malley said.

O’Malley said firefighters quickly determined that nobody lived in the home, and were able to concentrate their efforts on containing the blaze, which started in a second-story bedroom.

It’s unclear who owns the house, according to O’Malley, and it was also unclear Tuesday whether the fire was suspicious.

“We are currently investigating right now,” O’Malley said.

The state fire marshal’s office will assist Old Town police and fire officials in the investigation, O’Malley said. No firefighters or civilians were injured.
