Bath salts bust nets 14th arrest

BANGOR, Maine — Another suspect has been arrested in a federal bath salts raid that has resulted in the arrest of 14 individuals, according to officials.

Matthew Tardiff, 25, of Old Town was taken into custody on Tuesday, according to documents filed in U.S. District Court in Bangor.

Tardiff is facing charges of conspiracy to possess a controlled substance with intent to distribute and using or maintaining a drug involved place, according to the documents.

Tardiff, who made his initial court appearance on Tuesday, joins 13 other individuals who have been arrested in connection with the case.

The 14 suspects were indicted in mid-July, according to previous BDN reports, and the first suspect was arrested in early August.

If convicted, the suspects each face up to 20 years in prison and a $2,000,000 fine for the conspiracy charge, and an additional 20 years in jail and a $500,000 fine for maintaining drug-involved premises.

Tardiff is being held at the Penobscot County Jail.
