EBEEMEE TOWNSHIP, Maine — Lightning is to blame for a small forest fire that broke out in Piscataquis County Sunday afternoon, according to officials.

The blaze was reported around 2:30 p.m., said Ranger Doug Huettner of the Maine Forest Service.

Huettner said the fire, which consumed a few trees in an area spanning a half-acre, did not occur near any residences. It was under control by 5:30 p.m.

The fire was burning fairly well when firefighters and forest rangers arrived, Huettner noted. Firefighters from Brownville and Milo aided forest rangers, who also used a helicopter.

No one was injured in the blaze.
