PARSONSFIELD, Maine — A York County man who originally complained to police his vehicle was broken into wound up going to jail after leading a deputy on a short pursuit and threatening him with a baseball bat, police say.

Jeffrey Perry, 30, of Parsonsfield had called police on Tuesday alleging someone had broken out the rear window of his vehicle, according to Chief Deputy William King of the York County Sheriff’s Office.

Perry said to Deputy Tom Searway that he knew who the culprit was and grew upset when Searway didn’t immediately arrest anybody, according to King.

After Searway launched an investigation, he learned that Perry had recently assaulted his girlfriend, and urged other officers to be on the lookout for him, the chief deputy said. Perry was not found Tuesday.

Shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday, Searway observed Perry leaving his residence in his vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, King said. Perry refused to stop, driving farther down Route 25 before turning onto Wadleigh Street, where he came to an abrupt stop.

Upon exiting the vehicle, Perry was carrying a bat and threatened Searway with it, King said. Perry got back into his vehicle, drove a short distance before getting back out without the bat, when he was taken into custody.

Perry was arrested and charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, King said. He is also facing charges of domestic violence assault, eluding a police officer and failure to submit to arrest, King said.

Perry was booked into York County Jail and released on $1,000 bail. Part of his bail conditions require Perry to not contact his girlfriend.
