BANGOR, Maine — A Bangor man was arrested after allegedly robbing a downtown bank on Wednesday morning, according to police.

Percy Cartwright, 66, was taken into custody at the Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center and charged with robbery, a Class B felony, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said.

Edwards said police were sent to Bangor Savings Bank at 3 State St. shortly before 10:30 a.m.

The sergeant said no employees were injured in the robbery and no weapons were used.

Cartwright fled the scene after the robbery but was quickly nabbed after an investigation, the sergeant said. He was in custody about an hour after the robbery occurred.

Edwards said Cartwright had fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, all but $20 of which was recovered and returned to the bank.

Cartwright is being held at the Penobscot County Jail, according to Edwards.
