Orono man indicted on 94 sex charges

BANGOR, Maine — An Orono man was indicted Wednesday by the Penobscot County grand jury on 94 sex charges — 36 counts of gross sexual assault, 48 counts of unlawful sexual contact and 10 counts of sexual abuse of a minor.

Wyatt Tripp, 39, has been at the Penobscot County Jail unable to make bail set at $20,000 cash on April 10, according to the Penobscot County District Attorney’s Office.

Tripp is accused of sexually assault a male relative between October 2004 until April of this year, Assistant District Attorney Alice Clifford said Wednesday. The boy was eight or nine when the abuse began and 16 or 17 when it was reported, she said.

Clifford declined to say how Tripp and the victim are related.

An arraignment date has not been set.

If convicted, Tripp faces up to 30 years in prison on the most serious charge of gross sexual assault.
