ELLSWORTH, Maine — Police say a 28-year-old Ellsworth man is no longer considered missing after he made contact with his mother Wednesday.

Jonathan Spinney had been staying at the Barbara Hance House on Surry Road, but had been unheard from since Christmas Eve, said Detective Dotty Small of the Ellsworth Police Department. Small on Wednesday called Spinney’s mother, who said she heard from her son that morning.

“She no longer considers him missing, so he’s not,” Small said. Small said Spinney had called from somewhere in Bangor.

Police Chief John DeLeo had said Friday that Spinney had a history of drug abuse, which was a cause for concern to police and his family.

Small thanked the people who called in with tips and spread word of the missing man on Facebook.
