WARREN, Maine — A 38-year-old Warren man is behind bars after being caught red-handed with stolen goods as he left a house that had been under surveillance, according to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.

Daniel Boyce was arrested Wednesday night and charged with felony theft, felony violating a condition of release, felony burglary, and a misdemeanor trespass by motor vehicle, according to Chief Deputy Tim Carroll.

Boyce remained at the Knox County Jail on Thursday night. His initial court appearance is likely to be Friday afternoon in Rockland District Court.

Based on information gathered during an investigation, Deputies Paul Pinkham and Nathaniel Jack, assisted by Lt. Reginald Walker, conducted surveillance of an unoccupied residence on Finntown Road in Warren. Moments after the surveillance began, Boyce was seen leaving the residence, according to the Sheriff’s Department. Deputies stopped Boyce and found him in possession of several hundred dollars’ worth of metals, Carroll said.

The metals, largely scrap steel, later were determined to have been taken from the Warren residence, he said.

    1. 38 years old and hiding stolen scrap metal in an unoccupied house — don’t think he’ll be getting a call from NASA anytime soon.

  1. When the cops said, “Drop it” he replied…”If I do, you’ll have me on destruction of private property too.”

    1. Oh, most likely the “anonymous tipster” again. Of course, we all need to pretend that these anonymous tips have nothing to do with some other skeezer trying to save his or her OWN neck — just honest citizens doing their duty, right? C’mon now…

    1. How did you reach the conclusion he’s mentally ill, Sara? My take is that he’s just one more drug fiend trying to sneak around the fringes. Not normal behavior to most rational folks, but it doesn’t make dude certifiably insane. Problem is, really can’t help anybody who doesn’t believe he’s wrong, or maybe just doesn’t care. Keep in mind: “Normal is a cycle on a washing machine, it doesn’t apply to human beings.” =)

        1. He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother (The Hollies) Okay, you wanna bring that up — what’s the real deal? Has he always been a bit off, or is he into booze and drugs? Simple question, not trying to belittle him or anybody..

  2. A slap on the wrist by the courts and he will be back in business. Next time he will circle the area a bit to rule out surveillance.
